Flow assurance is a major concern to the petroleum industry, characterised by the numerous technical problems related to the nature of the produced effluents. These problems change gradually throughout the Field life, periodically requiring adjustment of the solution. The main problems are:
Corrosion caused by - produced brine and dissolved gases, such as CO2 & H2S;
Presence of Oxygen in the process system or microbial;
Deposits from - Mineral scales or asphaltene or paraffin's;
Water - Emulsions of oil or hydrate formations;

Water treatment and management is costly but mismanagement can be catastrophic. Salt deposits (scale) or hydrate formations can be the cause of many problems from flow restriction to masking corrosion in process or pipeline systems. PMAC's Dynamic Scale Loop is seen as the Industry Standard in the identification of scaling potential, inhibitor selection and optimisation.
The hydrate test cell operates to measure pressure and temperature under defined cooling conditions monitoring hydrate formation by gas absorption and formation exotherms. Stirring allows kinetics to be studied under modes of constant pressure or constant volume test conditions validating inhibitors under multiphase brine / crude / gas conditions.

Corrosion costs industry money, worse still it can cause catastrophic failures. Controlling corrosion can be effected by material design or process conditioning such as: water/ gas removal, pH control, inhibitors, coatings or cathodic protection. PMAC's range chemistry based technologies allows for fluid evaluation studies, inhibitor screening and dose selection both in the laboratory and in the field.
At PMAC we not only provide techniques for understanding of the chemical processes (which affect the corrosion processes) we have now developed our "Smart" new range of cathodic protection products, for pipeline and tank farm monitoring and control, utilising GPS and GSM technologies.

probes are an ideal source of sand and corrosion monitoring (where they are available), no such single tool is ready for either scale, wax or asphaltene control. These are therefore high risk / high cost prevention areas. The amount of "excess insurance" chemical can be a substantial cost if not managed carefully. Regular monitoring and optimisation should become the norm and the ability to monitor and change dosage rates inline with production changes standard practice.
